Inside Our Factory: How Custom Furniture Is Made

Custom furniture is usually bought from a photo and delivered in a box. The bit in between — the factory — is where the quality actually happens. Here's the real journey of your order, from your measurements to your doorstep.

Eco-certified engineered wood boards stacked in our workshop

Every order starts with the right board — certified, stored flat and checked on arrival.

When you order a custom piece from our factory, you're not buying a product from a shelf — you're commissioning a small production run of one. That changes how the whole process works, and it's worth knowing what happens at each stage so you know what 'quality' actually means on the shop floor.

Step 1: Design and Drawing

Everything starts with your measurements and photos. Our designer turns them into a 3D drawing with your interior layout, colours and hardware choices. You approve this drawing before anything is cut — nothing is produced against a guess.

Step 2: Material Selection

Boards are chosen by product and by room: E0/E1 certified particle board for most furniture, moisture-resistant panels for kitchens and litter areas, birch plywood where we need extra strength. Every sheet is checked for warping or surface defects before it's booked into the job.

Step 3: CNC Cutting

Your drawing becomes a cutting program. CNC cutting machines cut every panel to the millimetre from your approved design — which is why the measurements we asked you for matter so much. This is also where edge banding begins: every cut edge is sealed so the board's core is never exposed.

The drawing, the cut panels and the finished kitchen line up exactly.

Step 4: Drilling, Hardware and Assembly

Panels are drilled for dowels and hinges, and hardware — soft-close hinges, runners, handles — is fitted. Pieces are dry-assembled on the floor to check that everything lines up, then packed flat for shipping. On larger orders we assemble the full unit in the workshop first, then take it apart for transport.

Step 5: Quality Check

Every order gets checked against the drawing: dimensions, colour match, edge quality, hardware function, and a final wipe-down. For larger orders we photograph and video your actual pieces during this stage — so you can see your furniture before it's packed.

A wardrobe that reaches the ceiling only works if it was cut to your real numbers.

Step 6: Packaging and Shipping

Finished pieces are wrapped in protective layers and packed in export cartons, with corners and edges reinforced for the journey. Then it's a matter of sea or air freight to your port, with tracking provided and any shipping damage handled through a clear photo-based process.

Pro tip: ask any factory for production photos at the quality-check stage. A factory that shows you your actual order — not stock photos — is a factory that's confident in its work.

Why One-Piece Production Changes Quality

Mass-produced furniture is made in batches of thousands, and a batch error means thousands of bad pieces. Custom production is different: every piece is a batch of one, made from a drawing you approved, and checked against that drawing before it leaves the floor. That's why the drawing stage matters so much — it's the quality agreement between you and the factory. When we say 'checked against the drawing', we mean dimension, colour, edge, hardware and finish, piece by piece, on your order and nobody else's.

How to Verify a Factory Before You Order

  • Ask for production photos and videos of your actual order at the quality-check stage
  • Request the board certificates for the materials in your job
  • Check that the address, the factory photos and the company name all line up
  • Start with a one-piece sample order before committing to bulk
  • Ask for a video call during production on larger orders — any real factory can show you the floor

A factory that welcomes verification is usually a factory worth ordering from. Ours is open to exactly that — start with a sample order and see the process for yourself.
